Today is Thanksgiving, although it doesn’t really feel like it because we’re having the warmest weather I’ve seen in my 4 months here and I’m at work. I have started listening to Christmas music, although that generally has not helped me get in the Christmas spirit when the weather is so warm.
Nevertheless, to honor today I thought I would share my list of things I’m thankful for (in random order):
1) Getting the opportunity to live abroad again. I think I have a pretty cool life, and being in Africa is definitely part of that. Sure, Lesotho isn’t the most exciting place in the world to live but it’s home for now and I’m enjoying it.
2) My family. I’m have such a loving and accepting family and I’m so proud to be a member. I can’t wait to go home in a few weeks to be in SLC for Christmas. It’ll be my first Christmas at home for 6 years. It’s going to be sooo great.
3) Girlfriends. From my girlfriends in Baltimore, to the ladies I share an office with, to Wendy who’s living on the other side of the world. I love them all. They cheer me on through good times and bad and I know that I can always count on them.
4) My growing group of friends in Maseru. Outside of strictly girlfriends, I have a growing group of friends here in my new hometown. Again, I’m so lucky. People who will watch Molly for me when I’m away, who invite me to dinner and activities. It have a pretty great life here.
5) The internet. Seriously, how would I live life without it? I can download my favorite TV shows, buy digital scrapbook supplies, stay in touch in FB with hundreds of people from my various points in my life and generally distract myself. An amazing invention I say.
6) Having a great job. I get to live in Africa and work in an area that I’m passionate about. Plus I think I’m pretty good at it. Sure the job has it’s fair share of frustrations, but is there a job that doesn’t? Having just finished grad school and in this economy I would be lucky just to have A job, but I’m even luckier to have the great job I do.
Love you, sis! Can’t wait to see you in just a few weeks!!
Hi Heather–I love Molly–wow–and you got your car. How great it that? What will you do with Molly when you go home for Christmas? Can she come along?
From your blog, it sounds like you are doing wonderfully. I’m so glad. Arnie and I think of you often.
Have a great time with you family. Be in touch when you can, big hug, Bunnie
PS–We are off to Kenya on Tuesday for a few weeks R & R.
I’m way behind on reading my blogs, but I’m getting so excited to have you home for the holidays. I’m taking the week of Christmas off and am trying to get everything finished by the time you arrive so we can have some fun while you are here. Love you!!!
