Sad, but true. The mall has the best grocery store in town (Pick n Pay), several “dining” options (Spur, Ocean Basket, KFC, etc.) and the movie theatre. I’m at the mall several days a week, but it’s the movie theatre I love best. I have seen probably the most, and the worst, movies of my life here because on Sunday evening’s there’s not a lot better to do. I do my part to single-handedly keep the theatre in business by always buying the “VIP” ticket (actual movie theatre seats in the back two rows) and always getting a popcorn and drink. I did some research online for a list of movies that were released in 2010 to jog my memory, because some of the movies I saw last year should not take up any more room in my brain than necessary. Here’s the list:
- Leap Year
- From Paris with Love
- Alice in Wonderland
- How to Train Your Dragon (in Imax 3D in the U.S.)
- Clash of the Titans
- Date Night (in the U.S.)
- Death at a Funeral
- Iron Man 2
- Robin Hood
- Shrek Forever After
- Sex and the City 2 (despite the fact I’ve never seen the TV show or the first movie)
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
- The Karate Kid
- Toy Story 3
- The Twlight Saga: Eclipse (plus Twilight and New Moon) (yeah, they showed all three this year so I caught up. And then read the fourth book because I was dying to know what happens.)
- Despicable Me
- Inception (twice)
- Salt
- Step Up 3D (but not in 3D and, again despite the fact I’ve never seen the first two movies)
- Eat Pray Love
- The Expendables
- The Switch
- Going the Distance
Altogether that’s 25 movies plus one repeat and all but one of the top 10 grossing movies of the year (I didn’t see the new Harry Potter because I haven’t read any of the books or seen any of the previous movies.) This year I’ve already seen: Unstoppable, Megamind, and Red that were released in 2010. When tickets cost approximately $5 and there’s not much to do apparently I’ll see just about anything. Best movie of the year? Tie between Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon. Mostly because I saw How to Train Your Dragon on Imax 3D and it was AMAZING. Worst movie? Clash of the Titans (still can’t believe I saw that …) Movie that I still want to see? Lots. The Social Network, Black Swan, The King’s Speech, True Grit, Tangled, The Tourist, The Fighter, Burlesque, Love and Other Drugs, The American are some. We’ll see how many of those come to the theatre here, how many I end up renting on iTunes, and how many I miss altogether.
I saw Karate Kid at your mall too!
I’ve seen King’s Speech – very good
True Grit – excellent
The Tourist – entertaining
Burlesque – more entertaining
Still wanting to see Tangled, The Fighter
