I’m in denial that it is already the end of July. I’m not even convinced that it’s 2012. Just the other day I saw a date that included 2011 and I had to think twice to remember that that was LAST year. What? Here’s what’s going on with me these days:
I took Molly out into the mountains for a hike last Sunday and discovered that she LOVES the snow. She’s only been in the snow once before but this is the first time I was with her. She went NUTS. After feeding her some snow (for water) she went over to the nearest patch and started rolling around in it. Hilarious.
Progress towards my reading goals has improved significantly after a streak of books I could not put down. I’m down from 9 books behind to only 5 (ha, only.) Recent faves included Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Blunt. Be prepared to stay up late reading (and crying in the case of “Tell the Wolves”.)
I’m running another 10k this weekend and trying to keep expectations low. Several people have said that it should be easy after Kilimanjaro, which is technically true but the two activities are in completely different realms. Unlike in Cape Town, there are other people running in the same race and distance as me so I’m preparing myself for complete humiliation. My goal is still the same at Cape Town – to finish – but, as I told a colleague today, I think I should up the ante soon.
Lesotho is currently completely out of Coke Zero in a can. I cannot find it anywhere. There is Coke Zero in 2 liter bottles, but instead I bought a 6 pack of “real” Coke. Don’t ask, there is no logic to skipping 2 liter bottles and going for the full calorie option except that I prefer my soda out of a can.
The local Nando’s shut down two weeks ago surrounded by a flurry of rumors and has been the topic of probably a dozen of my conversations. As a result there is exactly one place left to go out to lunch and therefore I have started bringing lunch much more regularly. Bringing my lunch is better for my wallet, but my craving for their chicken wrap with pineapple and a side of chips begs to disagree.
