GIS CT: Push Your Pattern Story

13/07/2014 by heatherawsumb

I’m a little behind on sharing my pages from the Get It Scrapped blog this month. This month the creative team at Get It Scrapped was challenged to use Lesson 2 from the Style is Leverage event to “push our pattern story.”

A Day in the Life by Heather Awsumb | Supplies: Gelato Chevron Brushes by Just Jaimee; Guppy, Day Trippers, Hopscotch by One Little Bird; Thin Classic Frames No 1, Wire Rim Flake Charms, Assorted Messy Stitches White No 4, Flossy Stitches White by Katie Pertiet; Sassy Pants by Amy Wolff, A Day in the Life Freebie by Ali Edwards.

I went in to the assignment without a hypothesis of what I thought my dominant “pattern story” is. To start off, then, I looked through my recent pages taking a mental note of 1) what type of pattern I used most frequently, 2) in what size and 3) how I brought pattern into my page design. When looking through my pages I found that: 1) I most frequently use geometric patterns, 2) in small sizes and 3) from patterned paper. To challenge myself I wanted to try and break that dominant story. I did a search on Pinterest for “geometric print” and scrolled through the images. I saw a print using stamps of a geometric pattern that reminded me of the “Gelato Chevron Brushes” by Just Jaimee that were already in my stash. I liked that they were a larger pattern than I normally use and that they could add pattern without using pattern paper. After “stamping” them on my page I layered my photo and title on top for the final result. I am really happy with how this page turned out. I think it fits my “style” but while pushing myself to do something I wouldn’t normally do.
