25 (More) Things to Know About Me:
It’s been more than 2 years since I wrote the original 25 Things to Know About Me so I figured it was time for an update:
- My first job in high school was at Little Caesars Pizza. I worked my way up to Assistant Manager until I moved away to college. I will still eat their pizza.
- In college I worked at a telemarketing firm answering inbound phone calls for infomercials. I sold everything from Proactiv Solution to Dale Earnhardt memorial plates.
- I am a movie crier – if a movie involves death, animals or true love I am nearly guaranteed to cry.
- I like to add things to my to-do list that I’ve already completed just so I can get the satisfaction of crossing them off.
- I have a thing for (nerdy) German board games. My favorite three games are Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne and Bohnanza (aka “the bean game”).
- My iTunes music collection is meticulously organized. Every song has a star rating, complete metadata and album art.
- I am very much a song person and not an album person. How did the world function when you had to buy entire albums? It drives me crazy knowing that there is music in my collection that isn’t getting played and I routinely clean out music I no longer want or hasn’t been listened to and absolutely does not bother me if an album is “incomplete.”
- As of March 17, 2012 I will have lived in Southern Africa for six of the last seven years.
- I love popcorn, especially plain popcorn straight out of the air popper.
- My favorite color combination is blue and orange.
- Last year I started getting my legs waxed and will never go back to shaving.
- My Meyers Briggs personality is ESTJ (Extroversion, Sensing, Thinking, Judgment) but with very strong introvert tendencies.
- Thanks to a transient lifestyle, my tendencies to purge clutter and the invention of the Kindle I own exactly 11 physical books. My bookshelf is filled with picture frames, scrapbooks and board games.
- I very rarely have pictures more than a month old on the memory cards in my cameras because I compulsively clean them off.
- In my family my Dad and the 3 sisters are left handed. My mom and 2 brothers are right handed.
- The most common activity I use my iPad for is reading magazines. I currently subscribe to six magazines: Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Real Simple, Outdoor Photographer, O: The Oprah Magazine and Mental Floss.
- The second most popular thing I use my iPad for is watching videos while I work on my laptop. Now that’s what I call multitasking.
- To date my entire public health career has focused on Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV. It is a subject that I am extremely passionate about. I would love to work on a non-HIV project and can’t imagine staying in HIV but not working on PMTCT.
- I have done more than 50 runs – and earned my glass beer mug – with the Maseru Hash House Harriers. It took me just over 2 years to reach 50, so I probably won’t be around long enough to get to 100.
- My Hash name is Fly Trap.
- Until my 3rd year of university I thought that I would be a lawyer when I grew up.
- I moved to Washington, DC the day after graduating from university to an apartment I found online and having only been to the area on a high school trip 4 years earlier.
- Thanks to several years of participation in competitive debate I continue to number my arguments during everyday conversations (Number 1 … Number 2 …).
- There are currently 18 pairs of shoes (including 2 pairs of slippers) in my closet. The majority of my shoes are black and/or sandals.
- I find the sheer number of shoes I own ironic since I usually wear one of three pairs during the week: 1) black heel 2) black flats or 3) running shoes.
